SD Solutions is proud to announce that Olivia Carrico, one of our teaching assistants supported by our tutoring program, has won the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 621, Luray, Voice of Democracy contest! According to Page County Public Schools on Facebook, Olivia was selected as the winner for the district after winning on the local level. Olivia will now be moving on to state competition and, hopefully, national competition as well.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars are a nonprofit veterans service organization that offers Youth Scholarships, including the Voice of Democracy contest that was established in 1947. Voice of Democracy is an audio-essay contest that “provides high school students with the unique opportunity to express themselves in regards to a democratic and patriotic-themed recorded essay,” and this year’s theme is “America: Where Do We Go From Here?”. The national first place winner will receive a $30,000 scholarship.
Corporate citizenship is one of SD Solutions’ core values. We are passionate about being a good community partner, creating opportunities for students in rural and underutilized business zones, and fostering the next generation of leaders and innovators through scholarships and employment programs. We celebrate Olivia’s victory and wish her luck as she moves on to state-level competition.
