The NRC required SD Solutions to provide support and services in the development of the RIC website, database, mobile site, and mobile application web content management. They had an immediate need for online registration and virtual participant management and other conference support for the upcoming Regulatory Information Conference (RIC). This annual conference is hosted by Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR) and Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research as a place to discuss safety and regulatory issues of mutual interest.
In 2020, SD Solutions was requested the development of a mobile application. The mobile application was designed to work with all popular mobile platforms, including Android, Apple iOS, Blackberry, and Windows Phone. Figure 1 shows the home screen of the mobile application:
The application was designed to provide conference attendees with information that included the following:
- Conference agenda
- Session descriptions
- Speaker biographies
- Conference center maps
- List of nearby restaurants
- Digital exhibit and presentation descriptions and downloads
- Downloadable technical session presentations
The application was also designed to increase attendee participation by providing the ability for users to:
- Participate in live polling during plenary and technical sessions
- Ask questions
- Post pictures and comments
- Check in to and rate sessions
- Schedule meet-ups with other RIC attendees
The application has a robust backend that collects information on user engagement with various functions, including but not limited to
- Total number of users
- Session engagement (views, check-ins)
- Speaker engagement (views)
- Attendee engagement
- Digital exhibits and presentation display views
